At the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) recently declared the Mazda6 the 2014 Canadian Car of the Year and the Jeep Cherokee the 2014 Utility Vehicle of the Year.

Since 1985, AJAC has recognized the best new vehicles in Canada. And every year, winners are sorted by category. Over time, the categories have evolved along with the market. The first Car of the Year title was awarded by AJAC in 1987. In 1999, the Canadian Truck of the Year award was introduced. Looking at the winners since 1987, some were obvious choices, while others were more puzzling. Here we count backwards looking at previous winners from now all the way back to 1987.
