Late last month, a vintage Cadillac hearse worth $40,000 sold for four times that. Why? Nearly 50 years ago, that very funeral car was used to carry the body of John F. Kennedy, gunned down in Dallas in 1963, from Parkland Memorial Hospital to his awaiting presidential jet.

The macabre ride fetched $160,000 at auction Jan. 23 from a Colorado real estate developer, though the infamous auto is hardly the first to attract collectors' attention.
