Late-model used cars are more reliable than ever. Except, perhaps this lot.
Buying a pre-owned late model vehicle can be fraught with disappointment, despite the fact automakers have earned dependability scores that have never been higher. Regardless of stringent quality controls, there are bad apples that can sour the ownership experience. Oil-burning engines, jerky transmissions and squirrelly electronics are just some of the headaches chronicled by owners online. Used-car shoppers looking for a bargain today have to exercise the same level of caution they’ve always had.
We’ve highlighted 10 of the least favourably reviewed second-hand models we’ve come across in the past year, with our usual emphasis on reliability. We scan popular consumer websites for summaries outlining bad cars and trucks based on the experiences of actual owners who’ve recounted their trials and tribulations on consumer websites. The 10 presented here are in alphabetic order and, as usual, there are some surprises.
