The McLaren X-1 story began three years ago. "One of our clients, who already owned a McLaren F1, a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren and now a MP4-12C, wanted a unique car," says Paul MacKenzie, McLaren's Director of Special Operations. The conversation began with Ron Dennis, McLaren's CEO, even before the MP4-12C was launched. The client wanted a machine that offered the same performance as the 12C but wrapped in a unique body that reflected his needs and personality.
