Fear not: if you like tough cars, there are still plenty of choices out there

It's kind of tough to project a macho motoring image these days when car manufacturers call their vehicles things like Leaf and Prius.

Let's face it: it was easy to look and sound like a tough guy when your muscle car had a great big V8 burbling under the hood. But it's harder to hang tough when your wheels and fuel-saving tires are powered by an electric motor that doesn't make any noise at all.

But all is not lost for today's tough guy. There are still a few examples of modern macho machinery to motor around in, so don't throw away your motoring man card just yet. In this gallery, we'll examine some of the hardcore car choices currently on offer, while looking back fondly — in a very manly sort of way of course — at the great macho rides of yesteryear.
