One of the hidden advantages of the Hybrid Air system is that you don’t need any of the expensive elements required in the construction of the latest electric car batteries: materials such as lithium and nickel are costly and are often mined from the world’s poorest nations at great cost and then shipped around the world, undermining the green credentials of electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrids.

Peugeot Citroen claims this alternative compressed air storage system will be more reliable in all climates, cheaper to produce and won’t degrade over time, unlike conventional car batteries.
