McLaren calls all its test cars ‘XP’, for experimental prototype. It confirms a fleet of XP-codenamed prototypes is running ‘around the clock’ on both road and circuit as part of the P1’s development programme. This is being complemented by virtual testing to accelerate the car’s overall development time. McLaren Automotive is still a young company so all that fast-turnaround F1 experience will be vital here.
