Motive Kestrel
Canucks can be brainy too, and Project Eve, a plan to "bring together Canadian skills for the purpose of producing and supporting Canadian electric vehicles and components," is a perfect way to display that talent. In fact, the Kestrel, a compact four-passenger electric car from Motive Industries in Calgary, Alta., and one of Project Eve's originators, could be the brightest thing on the road.
Built using a bio-fibre-based composite, the Kestrel is incredibly light, weighing only 850 kg thanks to smart planning. The 16 kWh lithium-ion battery will provide a range of 160 km per charge with a theoretical top speed of 135 km/h.
Although a technology partner hasn't been announced, the Kestrel should be in the testing phase later this year, with certification from Transport Canada sometime in 2012.
