Because I like how it looks and it's my list, you need a Mitsubishi RVR. It's right-sized for an average life (i.e. no 19 kids and counting, and only one, maybe two hockey players in the family), and comes in a nifty Kingfisher Blue Metallic that will still look good when caked in black-edged crusty muck. Keep it in 2WD mode if you, like me, work at home and have no intention of going outside when there's snow on the ground; if you are forced to leave the house, snick it into 4WD with the locked centre differential. The seat warmer switches may be a little hard to reach, but they're comfortable and well bolstered, should you find yourself scaling snowbanks.

Convertibles aren't my thing. I don't like the wind messing up my hair
